The 35th Mostra de València takes place from October 22nd to November 1st, with several Mediterranean films on the programme. Eleven are on the shortlist of the official competition for the Palme d’Or. In addition to the films already announced in September, the festival has chosen:

Willow by Milcho Manchevski (Macedonia, Albania, Hungary, Belgium, 2019)
Kala Azar by Janis Rafa (Greece, Holland 2020)
Favolacce by Fabio and Damiano d’Innocenzo (Italy, Switzerland, 2020)
Luxor by Zeina Durra (Egypt, United Kingdom, 2020)
This year’s festival has already set a new record: more than 750 films were submitted.
Actress, singer and film-maker Maria de Medeiros received the Palme d’Honneur for her Lifetime Achievement. Several films she has directed or acted in are scheduled until October 30th.
Part of the festival programme looks at the Basque conflict. Six films and one series on this theme are scheduled. On October 24th Mariano Barroso and Félix Viscarret lead a discussion on how the audiovisual industry has tackled the Basque conflict.
This year’s festival also focused on recent Algerian productions. Among the seven films chosen are Gillo Pontecorvo’s The Battle of Algiers (1966) and Sara Nacer’s Qu’ils partent tous.
The 35th Mostra de València opened with a screening of Javier Polo’s The Mystery of the Pink Flamingo.
