CROATIA / The freedom of Tereza37

August 29th to September 4th was the week of the 67th Pula Film Festival. 16 films were in competition for the Golden Arenas. Among them Danilo Šerbedžija’s Tereza37.

Trailer

The script, written by Croatian actress Lana Barić, is about a woman married to a sailor for 10 years. After her fourth miscarriage, and under pressure from those around her, Tereza rethinks her choices and decides to turn the page. As she meets new men, a new Tereza emerges – more arrogant, more selfish, more free. Those professionals who have seen the film agree the character doesn’t come across as a victim but as a complex human being. “In all categories of film, and in a year dominated by major female issues and roles, ‘Tereza37’ left the most complete impression,” was the reaction of the jury awarding the Golden Arenas. Tereza37 has been hailed as a great feminist story, but also a story about the city of Split.
