A commission to discuss and examine the draft law to reform the Tunisian film industry was held in June.
Organised by the Committee on Tourism, Culture, Services and Crafts, it brought together experts, MPs and parliamentarians to discuss comprehensive reform of the existing legislation.
According to the invited experts, the national film sector has been in decline since the 1990’s. They say the proposed reforms would harmonise legislation and facilitate procedures needed to revive the film industry – an important element in the national economy.
Among the measures discussed was a proposal to restructure the way the CNCI (Centre national du Cinéma et de l’Image) is governed. The experts also called for an alternative financing mechanism, such as a special investment incentive fund.
During the hearing the Committee confirmed it wants to implement this draft law quickly.
