Romanian director Radu Jude is currently preparing to film his new feature Love Diptych, which is scheduled to begin in June.
In an interview with Film New Europe (FNE), Jude explains that this project is a “dialogue with Roberto Rossellini’s L’Amore” and he hopes the film will express his indebtedness to his country, to the history of cinema – and to low-budget film-making, which he sees as an essential form of cinema. According to the production company, Saga Film, the film’s budget is €500,000.
It is a co-production between Romania, Brazil, Greece and Ukraine.
Radu Jude also presented his new film Diary of a Chambermaid during the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival. Adapted from the novel by Octave Mirbeau (1848-1917), it is about a young Romanian woman working for a bourgeois family in Bordeaux while her daughter is growing up far away in Romania.
