MOROCCO / Foreign productions generate 1.5 billion dirhams

Maroc

Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, announced that foreign film productions have generated 1.5 billion dirhams (€140 million).

This is a record for the Moroccan film industry. As Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid pointed out, “before 2021, we didn’t exceed 500 million dirhams.”

In addition to the growing attractiveness of Moroccan locations, cinema attendance figures are high and seem stable, with an estimated 2.2 million film goers in 2025, close to 2024’s total. In 2023 the figure was 1.7 million.

These figures encourage investors to build more cinemas in Morocco, with a new cinema recently opened in Rabat,” Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid pointed out, referring to the new Pathé cinema (see our article
on this).
