Inshallah a Boy, a film by Amjad Al-Rasheed (Jordan), and Voy! Voy! Voy! by Omar Hilal (Egypt) both won awards at the Septimius Awards ceremony.
Held every year in Amsterdam, this international ceremony showcases films and series by new talents. More than thirty awards are given to directors, actors and film technicians.
Al-Rasheed’s Inshallah a Boy won the Best Screenplay Award. Co-written by Al-Rasheed, Delphine Agut and Rula Nasser, the film is about a young widow who has to fight to save her daughter and her home in a society which only values sons.
Omar Hilal’s Voy! Voy! Voy! won the Best Cinematography Award. The film is about an Egyptian security guard who dreams of travelling abroad. Discovering blind football, he pretends to be visually impaired in order to join a team travelling to Europe for the World Cup. Along the way he meets various people, including an attractive female
journalist, a middle-aged coach – and his two best friends, all the while hoping for a better life in Europe. The film recently won the Best Feature Film Award at the Split Mediterranean Film Festival (see our article).
The call for films for the next Septimius Awards is open until July 25th 2025. Find all the information on this link.
