EGYPT / 13th Luxor African Film Festival

Festival du Film Africain de Louxor

Organized by the Foundation of Young Independent Artists, the Luxor African Film Festival is preparing its 13th edition to be held from February 9th to 15th.

Wanting to bring Egypt closer to the whole of Africa, this year’s festival will show 44 films in four competitions: the Feature Film Competition, the Short Film Competition, the Diaspora Competition and the Student Competition.

During her press conference, festival director Azza Elhosseiny revealed that this edition will pay tribute to three notable personalities of the African film industry: Moroccan writer and critic Noureddine Saïl, founder of the Khouribga Festival of African Film, Egyptian producer Jaby Khouri and actress Aye Kita Yara from Burkina Faso.

This year’s festival is named after film director Khairy Beshara, one of the founders of the New Egyptian Realism movement. In particular he directed House Boat No.70 (1982) and The Collar and the Bracelet (1986). His films have marked the history of Egyptian cinema with their subjects anchored in the everyday concerns of Egyptians.
