The 36th Carthage Film Festival took place in Tunis from December 13th to 20th.

The jury announced the winners at the closing ceremony. They gave the Tanit d’Or to Egyptian director Abu Bakr Shawky for The Stories. Inspired by his parents’ lives, the film is about the relationship between an Egyptian pianist and an Austrian woman told through their letters.

Tunisia was well represented in the awards, with a total of nine winners. Among them, the Jury’s Honorary Award went to Kaouther Ben Hania’s The Voice of Hind Rajab. In the documentary category, director Anis Lassoued received a Special Mention for his film Notre Semence (Our Seed), which focuses on the daily lives of adolescents from different social backgrounds. Presented alongside the official competition, Amel Guellaty’s film Where the Wind Comes From won the Tunisian National Union of Journalists’ Award.

In total more than 200 films from 44 countries were shown in this 36th edition and 29 awards were given.
