On November 15th Mustapha Ben Letaief (picture) was relieved of his duties as CEO of the Etablissement de la Télévision Tunisienne (ETT), following a decision by the Head of Government, Habib Essid. Rached Younes has been named as interim director.

This drastic change occurred because on the previous day the one o’clock news programme showed images of a young shepherd beheaded by a terrorist group in the Mont Meghila, in Sidi Bouzid. The editor of the news programme, Hamadi Ghidaoui, was dismissed immediately on an internal decision. In a statement, the ETT had admitted “an affront to human dignity”.

In solidarity, Directors of the ETT channels Al Wataniya 1 and 2, respectively Iheb Chaouch and Chedia Khedir, resigned their posts Monday, November 16th.
