The 35th Carthage Film Festival was held from December 14th to 21st 2024.
After its cancellation in 2023 in support of the Palestinian people, the Festival continued its commitment by putting Palestine “at the heart of the JCC” with a selection of Palestinian films as well as a tribute to director Hany Abu-Assad. This 35th edition offered a rich programme of more than 200 films, 56 of them presented in competition.
This year the organizers created a new national competition to “highlight the dynamism of the Tunisian film scene”, explained the honorary president, Férid Boughedir.
This new competition was an opportunity to present 3 feature-length fiction films, four feature-length documentaries and five short fiction films. Among the documentaries, Ridha Tlili’s The Colour of Phosphate won the Best Feature Documentary Award. The film traces one man’s fight against the marginalization and degradation of a town swallowed by the dust from a phosphate mine. He uses theatre to fight his battle.
