BULGARIA / Iglika Triffonova’s “Kalunyo” starts production

KLAS Film

Bulgarian director Iglika Triffonova has started production of her feature film Kalunyo. The first phase of filming was in November 2024, the second phase will continue between May and June 2025.

Adapted from a best-selling Bulgarian novel by G. Bozhinov, the film revisits the book’s ethical and philosophical themes through a story set during the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. Producer Rossitsa Valkanova told Film New Europe: “In Kalunyo, Iglika Triffonova remains true to her deep interest in the existential questions facing her characters.”

With a budget of €1.4 million, the film received support from the Bulgarian National Film Centre (development and production grants), the Bulgarian Cash Rebate System, the Netherlands Film Fund, Avanpost (Romania), and private investors.

The Bulgarian production company KLAS Film is looking for TV pre-sales and direct investments in the production of the film.
