From March 13th to 17th the CMCA held this year’s session of the annual “New writing and new media” workshop in Marseilles. The six trainees were from Algeria, Croatia, Morocco, Tunisia and France.
The five-day workshop is to inform journalists working with the CMCA’s television partners about new narrative techniques, particularly for web-documentaries. The first day, supervised by France Télévisions’ web coordinator Martin Gouesse, showed the trainees how to recognise the false information which often circulates on the social networks by giving them insights into how France Télévisions edits internet news. Gouesse also showed them how “Facebook Live” is used, taking them behind the scenes of the programme.
The second day was devoted to the challenges of the new media and how to master its tools. On the third day the trainees began working on the practical aspects: pre-production, production and post-production. The training ended with a review of the activities carried out during these few days.
Apart from the teaching and learning aspects, the workshop is also an opportunity for journalists from all over the Mediterranean to meet and exchange ideas on shared issues.
During this year’s session the trainees added content to the Marseille-Multimedia-Méditerranée web-documentary. The aim of this project is to create, over a number of years, an interactive map of the major cities in the Mediterranean region. This year the participating journalists worked on 3 of Marseilles’ districts: Saint-Charles – Notre-Dame-du-Mont – Le Pharo. Then when they get back to their respective countries they will use their new skills and ideas to film, photograph or record a report on a district in their city, adding this to the interactive map created by the CMCA. The aim: to use the work of the trainees to offer web users a walk through the major Mediterranean cities. Eventually a complete web documentary will be made and offered to the CMCA’s television partners for their websites.
At the end of their training, having validated their internship, the participants were each given a CMCA certificate:
– Ana Zadro from HRT (Croatia)
– Souheyla Bedounia from EPTV (Algeria)
– Youcef Hammid from EPTV (Algeria)
– Sana Khaldouni from 2M (Morocco)
– Rabii Bhouri from Tunisian Television
– Delphine Vincent (France)
We would like to thank them for taking part and for their commitment to the project.
