ITALY / 8th Middle East Now Festival

The eighth Middle East Now Festival will take place between April 4th and 9th in Florence, Italy. This festival is dedicated to Middle Eastern and North African cinema, art and culture.

Middle East Now is the only event in Italy committed to these regions. It hopes to erase common stereotypes by making the Italian public aware of the culture and identity of the different countries making up these two zones,.

The festival also gives visibility to films which are not normally distributed in Italy. Two awards will be presented: the “Middle East Now Audience Award” for the best film, and the “NYU Florence Best Short”.

This year the opening films will be Aliyar Rasti’s City As Art (Iran, 2012) and Firas Fayyad’s Last man in Aleppo (Syria, 2017). Over 45 films will be presented during the festival, supplemented by exhibitions of photography, visual arts, painting, sculpture plus debates and book presentations.
