SPAIN / The Spanish government plans to invest 1.7 billion euros in the audiovisual sector

Spain Audiovisual Hub

At the Cannes Film Festival’s Film Market, the Spanish government presented a revised version of its Spain Audiovisual Hub plan, launched in 2021.

Faced with the disruption of the audiovisual sector caused by new technologies, the plan will strengthen Spanish audiovisual productions by encouraging the development of national productions and attracting external investment and foreign productions. By investing €1.7 billion in the sector, Spain hopes to become Europe’s leading audiovisual hub.

During the presentation of the plan in Cannes, representatives explained how this investment will be channelled. It will be distributed through several regulated mechanisms, including equity funds requiring a maximum public participation of 49% of the budget. The remaining 51% must come from private sources.

Funding applications must be submitted by August 2026.
