Jordan’s Royal Film Commission has increased its financial incentives for foreign film and television productions, raising the upper limit of its cash rebate from 25% to 45%.
The new rate was officially announced at the Cannes Film Festival on May 14th. It reflects Jordan’s commitment to attracting international productions, despite Donald Trump’s announcement of a tax on American productions shot abroad.
Recently Jordan has been the location for several major American productions such as Dune, The Martian, and John Wick: Chapter 4.
The revised incentive programme introduces a graduated rebate system ranging from 25% to 45%, determined by a points-based assessment of each project. Criteria include the scale of the production, the degree of integration of Jordanian cultural content and the artistic, cultural, and economic value of the project. Productions spending more than $10 million in the country and incorporating significant local elements can benefit from the maximum rebate.
Jordan is also strengthening its support for national productions. Rebates for local productions have increased from 10% to 30% for projects with budgets exceeding $500,000.
