Platino Educa is a digital platform which uses film to educate and spread cultural values – a joint initiative by EGEDA (an organization managing the intellectual property rights of Spanish producers) and FIPCA (Federación Iberoamericano de Productores Cinematográficos y Audiovisuales). Aimed at young people, Platino Educa wants to help them learn how to watch and analyse films.
On their website there’s content from Spain and Latin America: classic and contemporary feature films, documentaries, short and animated films. All of them are classified according to age group, from 3 years to the over-18’s. They deal with various subjects including literature, natural sciences, history and maths. They also discuss values such as human rights, sustainable development and gender equality.
Most of the films are subtitled in English. They are also accompanied by an educational guide developed by film and education experts.
Octavio Dapena, director of Platino Educa said that “The website was already operational. We had been preparing it for over a year. Then just when we were about to start, the health crisis happened. We had spent a lot of time thinking about doing something related to film and education, and it is designed to be used in the classroom, but given the current circumstances we are opening it more widely during this period of confinement at home.”
Conceived for educational establishments, its content is now available free for universities, schools and educational centres whereas for other institutions and people without access, the price is €4.
