Spain / La Mostra de València increases the value of its awards and creates a new one

The 37th Mostra de València del Mediterrani will take place from October 20th to 30th 2022. In a recent press release the festival announced its awards are evolving and detailed some changes to them in this year’s event.

The Palme d’or, the festival’s highest award, will be increased from €25,000 to €30,000. There is also a new award of €15,000 for the Spanish distribution company which owns the rights to the winning film. The second award, the Palme d’Argent, has also increased: from €15,000 to €20,000. According to the organizers these changes will allow them to promote the films and “reach out to the widest possible audience”.

The changes are mainly due to an increased budget of €611,000, the highest since the València town hall has been financing the festival.

Created in 1980, La Mostra de València-Cinema del Mediterrani became a major meeting place for Mediterranean-based film professionals. Then in 2012 the town hall announced that “due to the difficult economic situation it would close for several years at least.” In 2018 the project was relaunched so “the city can radiate beyond Spain’s borders.”

The call for films for the 37th Mostra de València-Cinema opened on March 1st and remains open until September 1st. Any drama feature film produced or co-produced by a country in the Mediterranean region can enter. The list of eligible countries and all the information about the call for films is on their web-site.
