The San Sebastian International Film Festival (SSIFF) will take place from September 18th to 26th. As they prepared for this year’s event the organizers announced they want to introduce a film market into the programme. Like the Zurich Film Festival, the SSIFF wants to create a market which would include films selected for festivals cancelled by the Covid-19 pandemic. In particular they want to show films which would have competed at American festivals such as South by Southwest, initially programmed from March 13th to 22nd, and Tribeca, scheduled from April 5th to 26th.
The American company CAA Media Finance will supervise the event, supported by the distribution and production company Wild Bunch and the production and sales company FilmNation.
José Luis Rebordinos, the director of SSIFF said that “If the health authorities allow the festival to take place under normal conditions, we want this edition to be for films which could not be screened at the festivals for which they were originally selected, so they can be seen by buyers and distributors. At the same time we want these professionals, who represent the most important film companies in the world, to discover the scope of the San Sebastian Festival, its programme and activities all focused on the film industry.”
On its website the San Sebastian International Film Festival says that with this initiative they want to support the film community by creating a market for independently funded projects.
Details of the screenings and programming of the films will be communicated later.
