Following the measures announced by the Tunisian government to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, MACTS has created a crisis cell.
The Mutuelle des Artistes, des Créateurs et des Techniciens du Secteur Culturel has existed since 2017 and sees itself as a “tool for solidarity between workers in different sectors concerned with culture.” Faced with the current temporary suspension of all cultural and artistic activity, the Mutuelle decided to set up a crisis cell to help those who need psychological support. In a press release it said that it had contacted the Ministry of Culture after its announcement that it had created a Fund to keep culture afloat. This Fund promised “emergency help for artists and private cultural institutions such as theatrical, musical or other dance groups as well as art and culture spaces.”
In addition to psychological help, MACTS gives financial and food aid. They are given to any artist who asks for them and whose situation the Mutuelle considers to be precarious.
