Festival de Film et de Music de Kustendorf

Created by the director Emir Kusturica, the Kustendorf Film and Music Festival ran from January 23rd to 27th.

536 short films were submitted to the festival, with just 17 selected for the competition – but a selection containing a wide diversity of films, such as Maša Šarović’s 9-5 (Serbia), Nikos Kyritsis’ Highway of a Broken Heart (Greece), I Promise You Paradise by Morad Mostafa (Egypt) and David Gašo’s Short Cut Grass (Croatia).

This year’s festival also screened a selection of contemporary feature films in the Contemporary Trends and New Auteurs programmes. These included Vladimir Perišić’s Lost Country, about the student revolts against the Miloševic regime, and Basil Khalil’s A Gaza Weekend .

Finally, the Retrospective of Greatness section looked back at the history of cinema by showing four classics, including Fellini’s famous 8½.
