Director Pavle Vučković began shooting his film Frost on September 7th, wrapping in October. The main location was the Pavlovac Monastery on Mount Kosmaj, near Belgrade, plus some days in Negotin and Lepenski Vir.
Also scripted by Vučković, the film is about a detective, Mirjana, sent to eastern Serbia to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. Over time, her investigation turns into a personal quest. Using elements of crime film, thriller and fantasy, Vučković explores the region’s culture, beliefs, Christian tradition and superstitions.
The director explains that his film “is a modern version of an east Serbian myth: a dragon takes human form and finds a lover among humans. The story ends with the death of the dragon, which I see as the metaphorical killing of the mystical and spiritual parts of human life. Like any fable, Frost explains the world and our experience of it, showing us the dangers of not believing, of no longer having myths.”
A co-production between Serbia, North Macedonia and Montenegro, the film is also supported by the Serbia Film Centre, the North Macedonia Film Agency and the Montenegro Film Centre.
Frost is Pavle Vučković’s third feature. His first, Panama, premiered at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
