ALGERIA / The Annaba Mediterranean Film Festival is back after 4 years’ absence

After an absence of four years, the Annaba Mediterranean Film Festival (AMFF) returns from November 3rd to 9th for a fourth edition.

Using the tag-line “New vision”, the event’s organiser Mohammed Allal wants to “give a truly international dimension to the Annaba Festival, in particular by selecting the best films and by increasing the value of the main award, but also by organising discussions between national and international producers.”

Part of the “New Vision” is to replace the “Annab d’Or” award with the “Gazelle d’or”, worth $15,000. In all $40,000 will be divided between the winners of the 15 awards chosen during this year’s festival.

The organizers announced they have received more than 2,000 films from 20 countries around the Mediterranean basin. 60 have been selected and will be shown in one of the three main categories: feature films, short films and documentaries. Italy will be the country of honour.

In addition to the screenings, training workshops will be offered to students and film enthusiasts, including “a special programme for making short films,” explains Mohammed Allal.
