On November 18th the French-language channel TV5MONDE and the satellite/broadband operator Orange Romania announced they had signed a distribution agreement. TV5MONDE will now be available in the World HD package, which has 250,000 subscribers.
According to a statement released by the channel, Romania is TV5MONDE‘s “leading audience base in Europe”, after France, Belgium and Switzerland. It has 2.7 million viewers a week, according to figures from ARMA / Kantar Media.
As part of this, TV5 Europe plans to launch a Romanian version of the TV5MONDE website by early 2016. According to the statement, there are 30,000 Romanians already using the French-language site each month.
Transmitted in Romania for 25 years and subtitled in Romanian since 2008, TV5MONDE is also partner of several cultural events like the Transylvania International Film Festival and the Bucharest French-language Film Festival.
