Two major productions have been busy on the sound stages at the Ouarzazate studio.
  • From June 13th to 18th the French actor-director Albert Dupontel was there, shooting part of his sixth feature, “Au revoir là-haut”, an adaptation of Pierre Lemaitre’s novel which won the 2013 Prix Goncourt.
    Au revoir là-haut” is set at the end of the First World War and follows two men traumatised by their experiences. With a budget of about €15 million, the film, which began shooting in France on March 8th, will be distributed by Gaumont.
  • From June 20th until July 3rd the “gate of the desert” also welcomes a Universal Pictures production, “The Mummy” by Alex Kurtzman. In the lead role is Tom Cruise, back in Morocco two years after filming several sequences of “Mission: Impossible –  Ghost Protocol.”
    Set in Iraq, “The Mummy” alternates between war film and fantasy. Alongside Tom Cruise, the producers have assembled an international cast, among them Algerian actress Sofia Boutella and Tunisian actor Marwan Kenzari.
    Apart from Ouarzazate, filming will also take place in other southern Moroccan towns, including Erfoud, Merzouga, Jbel M’douer, Rissani and Errachidia.
