The Marrakech International Film Festival has announced the 28 projects selected for the 8th Atlas Workshops, which will take place in parallel with the festival from November 30th to December 4th.
Launched in 2018, Atlas Workshops is a talent development programme supporting Moroccan, and more broadly Arab and African, film-making.
For this 8th edition, Romanian director Cristian Mungiu will be the event’s patron. “I am very happy to be back in Marrakesh, a dynamic festival which encourages and unites individuals from all over the world through the power of film. I gladly accept the role of patron of the 2025 Atlas Workshops, hoping that I and the film-makers I meet will have much to learn from this event,” he said.
Of the 28 projects, 12 are in development, including Basma Rikoui’s first feature-length documentary, Akal (Morocco), a fiction film by Suha Arraf, Chentian (Palestine) and The Marches by Vatche Boulghourjian (Lebanon).
The organisers have also chosen 10 films from 7 countries currently shooting or in post-production, 5 Moroccan projects in development and one Moroccan film in the final stages of editing.
