
Organised by the Association for Cultural and Artistic Activities in the Southern Provinces, the 14th Dakhla International Film Festival took place from June 6th to 12th.
This year the organisers presented nine feature films and ten documentaries, divided into two competitions. The films submitted came from 21 countries in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and North America.
Among the feature films in competition the Grand Prix went to Sarah Goher’s Happy Birthday (Egypt). The film is about an eight-year-old girl working as a maid for a wealthy family in Cairo. The film’s lead actress, Doha Ramadan, shared the Best Actress Award with Kholoud Betioui for her role in Fragments by Janane Fatine Mohammadi and Abdelilah Zirat (Morocco).
In the documentary category the Grand Prix was awarded to Abderrahman Sabah’s Le Clown de Gaza (Palestine, France, Qatar).
