MOROCCO / “Scirocco” begins production

Mirage Film

Moroccan director Yassine Marco Marroccu has started production of his feature film Scirocco.

The film is set in Casablanca in the spring of 1961. Edoardo (43) embarks on a mission to salvage a mysterious ship wrecked on the Atlantic coast in a dangerous area controlled by local tribes and the Moroccan army. The ship is shrouded in secrets, with rumours about a cursed cargo apparently stolen by treasure hunters from the ancient forbidden city of Timbuktu.

Produced by Mirage Film (Hungary), Eclipse Films (Morocco) and co-produced by Rif Film Morocco, Scirocco is supported by the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre (€400,000), the National Film Institute of Hungary (€400,000) as well as of the Hungarian Film Incentive (€100,000). Last March, the film was presented at the Meeting Point Vilnius sessions, a professional event organized by the Vilnius International Film Festival Kino Pavasaris.

Yassine Marco Marrocco is a producer and director. He has directed several short films including Gnawas (2001) and Entropya (2013). His films have been screened at numerous festivals. In 2018 he made his first feature film, Catharsys or The Afina Tales of the Lost World.
