CROATIA / HAVC, a look back at 15 years of existence

HAVC

The Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) celebrates its 15th anniversary this year – an opportunity to organize screenings through the year of important films which have marked its existence.

Titles such as People from the Milky Way by Miroslav Mikuljan (2010), Dear Lastan by Irena Škorić (2014) or Bigger Than Trauma by Vedrana Pribačić and Mirta Puhlovski (2022), will be shown at national festivals (ZagrebDox, Animafest, 25 FPS, Pula Film Festival and Zagreb Film Festival).

During its 15 years the HAVC has supported the development and production of 1,102 films, including 840 Croatian films. Among these, 266 are feature-length (fiction, documentary and animation), 402 are shorts and 172 experimental. During the same period 213 minority co-productions were supported, 102 cinemas (202 screens) went digital and 203 Croatian films were distributed nationally.

Since 2021 Croatian films have enjoyed wide distribution and recognition at international festivals. Determined to defend national productions, HAVC’s director, Chris Marcic, announced the creation of “Discover Our New Film”, a system to “further motivate the Croatian public to go to the cinema by making them aware of the diversity and richness of our national films.”
