Cyprus Film Days

The 21st Cyprus Film Days International Festival (CFD) kicked off on April 21st and runs until April 29th in Nicosia and Limassol. Created in 2001, the event has developed around its international competition, Glocal Images.

This year, the Glocal Images competition included 8 feature films dealing with various themes including the environment, immigration and social issues. The Cypriot film Imam, by Corinna Avraalidou and Kyriacos Tofarides, focuses on the death of seven refugees who were killed when a building in a refugee camp collapsed. Also in competition, Christos Passalis’ Silence 6-9 (Greece) deals with the unexplained disappearance of the inhabitants of a small coastal town.

An international jury, chaired by director Julie Bertucelli, will give awards to the competition’s best films.

The event also presents various out-of-competition selections, including the Viewfinder section for films which have won awards at international festivals. Among the seven films presented, The Eight Mountains (Italy, Belgium, France) by Felix Van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch tells the story of two men, friends since childhood.

All the screenings and meetings are available on the CFD website.
