The French group Pathé Cinemas continues its expansion in Africa with the opening of its first cinema in Morocco. Having built others in Tunisia and Senegal, Pathé opened the Pathé Californie Casablanca on December 19th with the group’s president, Aurélien Bosc, officiating.

During the ceremony Monsieur Bosc said his group had invested the substantial sum of 150 million dirhams, or nearly 14 million euros.

Covering more than 10,000 m², the Pathé Californie Casablanca has 1,150 seats spread across eight cinemas, including an Imax and the first 4DX cinema on the African continent.

The ticket price in this multiplex takes into account the current rates in the country’s other cinemas, with entry normally costing around 80 dirhams (7.37 euros).

Concerning the programming, Hanane Tiattabin, operations director, confirmed the cinema will be offering Moroccan productions. In 2022 Moroccan films represented 36% of the cinema market share, ranking behind American films which occupied 46%.

The Pathé group plans to open a second multiplex in Casablanca in 2025.
