A government council has appointed Mohamed Reda Benjelloun Director of the CCM (Centre Cinématographique Marocain).
Maroc Hebdo says people were expecting this appointment because “since 2021 the position has been occupied on an interim basis by the Secretary General of the Communications Department, Abdelaziz El Bouzdaini. The CCM’s last Director General was Sarim Fassi Fihri.”
Reda Benjelloun graduated in law from the Sorbonne and began his career as a legal consultant in Paris. In 1995 he turned to journalism and joined TV 2M (Morocco). He has worked as a reporter, presenter and producer of news magazines and currently directs the channel’s news magazines and documentaries. Since 2011 he has produced 2M’s Des Histoires et des Hommes, a prime time weekly documentary slot on Sunday evenings.
Reda Benjelloun has also served many times on the PriMed jury and in this capacity chose 2M’s broadcasting awards. Thus award-winning documentary film-makers found an outlet for their works on the Moroccan national channel, with early evening exposure. A privilege few documentaries enjoy.
Founded in 1944, the CCM is a public institution under the authority of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication. Its mission is to support and promote the Moroccan film industry.
