American director Martin Scorsese has been named patron ofthis year’sAtlas Workshops, the talent-development programme for young creators at the Marrakesh International Film Festival.

Scorsese has been invited five times since the festival’s creation, in particular as jury president in 2013 and then for the tribute to Robert De Niro in 2018. “I am always very happy to return to my beloved Marrakesh Festival. When I’ve not been able to attend in person, I’ve always been there in spirit,” he said in a statement. “For this very special anniversary edition of the Festival, I have been entrusted with a precious task: to interact with young film-makers and help guide them on their way. I look forward to meeting old friends and making new ones.

ThesixthAtlas Workshops will be held from November 27thto 30thas part of the 20thMarrakesh International Film Festival (November 24th – December 2nd). The Workshopshelp young Moroccan, Arab and African film-makers develop their projects.

Since 2018 the Workshops have supported more than 111 projects and films. Four films backed by the Workshops were screened at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, three of them winningawards: The Mother of All Lies by Asmae El Moudir (Un Certain Regard – Best Director Award), Les Meutes by Kamal Lazraq (Un Certain Regard – Jury Award), Inshallah a Boy by Amjad Al Rasheed (Critics’ Week – Gan Foundation Award) and Déserts by Faouzi Bensaïdi (Film-makers’ Fortnight).
