ITALY / Winners of the Final Cut in Venice

Biennal de Venise

Created in 2013 as part of the Venice International Film Festival, Final Cut in Venice is a programme supporting the post-production of films from every African country and five Middle Eastern ones: Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria.

Every year seven films are selected to participate in the three day programme (this year from September 3rdto 5th). The leader of eachchosen project presents their film to international film professionals to get help with post-production and access to distribution.

For the seventh consecutive year a three-person jury awarded €5,000 to the selection’s best film in post-production. This year they choseCarissa by Jason Jacobs and Devon Delmar. Many of the event’ssponsors also gave cash prizes. Hind Meddeb’s Franco-Tunisian Sudan, When Poems Fall Apartwon five awards, including €5,000 presented by Rai for the broadcasting rights and a guarantee of €10,000 by the distributor Mad Solutions.

Sandar Copti’s film Happy Holidays about an Israeli-Palestinian couple received €15,000 for colour correction from Laser Film and another €15,000 for sound mixing from Studio A Fabrica.
