Scriptwriter Ahcen Tlilani told Algérie Presse Service that the film based on his script, Zighoud Youcef, has now completed shooting after a two month schedule in the administrative districts of Constantine, Mila, Skikda and Algiers.

Directed by Mounès Khammar, produced by Algeria’s CNIC (Centre National de l’Industrie Cinématographique) and supervised by the Ministry of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, this film reconstructs the life of Zighoud Youcef. The writer Tlilani explains that this historical film follows the martyr’s journey “from his involvement in the National Movement to his joining the Special Organization, through his imprisonment in Annaba and his heroic escape from prison in the company of other mujahideen.” The film, continues Tliani, “provides a vivid picture of the Independence Revolution in eastern Algeria.

The film’s preview, originally planned as part of the anniversary commemorations of the Philippeville Massacre (August 1955), had to be postponed because “the editing requires more time.” The production hopes to screen the film on the anniversary of the outbreak of the War for Independence on November 1st.
