The 21st Marrakesh International Film Festival closed on December 7th 2024.
The jury, chaired by Italian director Luca Guadagnino, viewed 14 films presented in the official competition. The big winner this year was Happy Holidays by Palestinian director Scandar Copti. Two of the film’s actresses, Manar Shehab and Wafaa Aoun, also won the Best Actress Award. Set in Israel, Happy Holidays is about the relationship between four ordinary people, highlighting the complexities of gender, generation and culture.
During this 21st edition, 71 films from 32 countries were shown in six sections, including a panorama about Moroccan cinema in which Daoud Aoulad-Syad’s Le Lac Bleu and Simone Bitton’s Les Milles et un Jours du Hajj Edmond were screened.
