On June 21st a fire devastated part of the Ouarzazate Cinema Museum.

Apparently the fire was caused by the special effects used during a film shoot. No casualties were reported but a large part of the museum’s equipment, sets and other material were destroyed.

Covering an area of 2 hectares, the Ouarzazate Cinema Museum was built on the site of a former film studio created in 1981 by an Italian production company. Opened in 2007, it shows the history of the studios and the major films made there.

An investigation has been opened to determine the causes of the fire.
