Palestine 36, Annemarie Jacir’s new film, is being presented in several Middle Eastern countries, including Egypt and Jordan.
This regional release is part of CineMAD, a three-month pan-Arab film season showcasing films acclaimed at international festivals. The event is organised by MAD Solutions in partnership with Premiere, Empire Entertainment, Filmlab Palestine, and Easy Distribution.
Set against the backdrop of the 1936 Arab Revolt, Palestine 36 is about a young man torn between his agricultural roots and the tense political climate in Jerusalem. The narrative unfolds during a critical period of the British Mandate, marked by rising immigration, as Jews flee fascist Europe, and Palestinian demands for independence. These events will influence the region’s future and mark a turning point for the British Empire.
Now considered one of the best-known film-makers in the Arab world, Annemarie Jacir is a scriptwriter and director with nearly 16 films to her credit. Her best known works include Salt of this Sea in 2008 and Wajib, Invitation to the Wedding in 2017.
Palestine 36 was released in French cinemas on January 14th.
