LEBANON / Tiro Association for Arts is restoring a Beirut cinema

Revive Colisee

The Tiro Association for Arts is launching a fundraising appeal to restore Beirut’s Le Colisée cinema.

Founded in Tyre in 2014, the association participates in the cultural and artistic development of communities in various places. Since its creation it has restored several cinemas, including the Alhambra in 2014, the Rivoli in 2018 and most recently in 2022 the Empire in Tripoli. These venues now host performances and screenings for numerous events.

With expertise acquired through previous projects the association is continuing its mission to restore cultural buildings.

Located in the fashionable Al-Hamra district, Le Colisée has been closed since the 1980’s Civil War. By renovating this cinema the association hopes to “make Beirut a cultural and artistic hub, fostering artistic collaborations and creating employment opportunities for talented young Lebanese,” the press release says. “In a context marked by the scars of war, art becomes a powerful tool for healing and rebuilding social fabric, providing a space for meeting people and expression without discrimination.

The project involves the complete renovation of the building, the installation of modern equipment and the creation of a café and library.
