ITALY / Death of Pier Luigi Malesani, major figure at Rai

We learned with great sadness of the death on March 19^th of Pier Luigi Malesani, Secretary General of COPEAM (Permanent Conference of Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators).

After a career which began in Censis (Centro Studi Investimenti Sociali), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then the IRI (Instituto per la Riconstruzione Industriale), he joined public service broadcasting in 1998 as Rai’s Director of International Relations. In 2001, he was appointed Director of Institutional and International Relations, and also chairman of the Prix Italia. From 2008 to 2012 he was head of the Supervisory Board of Euronews. In April 2012, he was elected General Secretary of COPEAM, a position he held until his death.
