“Hope … a little, a lot, passionately”
The central theme of this year’s rich programme is hope. There are two competitions, one for features, another for short films, each offering a Gold and a Silver Fifog. There is also the Golden Fifog Audience Award, organized online. There are several films in the running for the best short film from a school. In addition to an online exhibition of six artists from six countries, there will also be discussions on the issues facing today’s society.
Among the 40 films to be shown this year: Mounia Meddour’s “Papicha”, a film about a young woman fighting fundamentalism in Algeria in the ’90s; “Avec le vent” by Mehdi Shadizadeh, on the life of Abbas Kiarostami, poet, photographer, graphic designer, artist and woodcarver; and, featured on the festival poster, “Baghdad in my shadow” by Iraqi director Samir, about the intertwined, often agitated lives of Iraqis in exile in London.
