FRANCE / “Much Loved” wins Valois d’or

MUCH_LOVEDAt the 8th Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, held from August 25th to 30th, the jury chaired by French actor Jean-Hugues Anglade awarded the Valois d’or to the Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch for his film “Much loved”. The actress Lubna Abidar won the Valois for Best Actress. There were 9 other films in competition.

Much loved” tackles the subject of prostitution in Morocco through the portraits of four women, and since its screening at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes last May it has provoked lively reactions and controversy in Morocco. Indeed, the Moroccan government has banned the film from the country’s cinemas, claiming it is “a serious affront to moral values and Moroccan women and a blatant attack on Morocco’s image.” The film was released in French cinemas on September 16th.
