FRANCE / Lina Soualem, director of Bye Bye Tibériade wins the Alice Guy Award

Prix Alice Guy

Named after the first French female film director and created in January 2018 by journalist Véronique Le Bris, the Alice Guy Award honours an international female director every year.

This year the award was won by Lina Soualem for her film Bye Bye Tibériade. “I discovered Alice Guy,” the director says, “at the same time as the Award which bears her name, when my first film, Leur Algérie, was released. It’s an honour to receive this award because it highlights women directors in a world and at a time when they need it so much!

In Bye Bye Tibériade, her second feature, Ms Soualem records the story of the women in her Palestinian family, including her mother, the actress Hiam Abbas. The film was released in France in February 2024.

The jury for the award was Jean-Pierre Améris, Michaël Mélinard, Pauline Seigland, Kaouther Ben Hania, Anna Mouglalis and Thomas Jolly.
