Angénieux

Egyptian director and DOP Haya Khairat won the Angénieux Special Encouragement Award at the recent Cannes Film Festival – the first time an Egyptian cinematographer has won this award.

Since 2013 the Pierre Angénieux Tribute ceremony has honoured directors of photography, and since 2018 the work of promising cinematographers. Pierre Angénieux founded the camera lens brand, Angénieux. He is particularly famous for designing the first variable focus zoom lens.

Haya Khairat made her debut as DOP in 2019 on Dark Chocolate, which won the Audience Award for Best Short Film at the Cairo International Film Festival. In 2020 she won the Dubai Lynx Awards for her work both as director and cinematographer on the Zero Tolerance Ribbon FGM campaign.

Haya Khairat received the Angénieux award alongside British cinematographer Barry Ackroyd.
