After a one-year gap the 6th El Gouna Film Festival will be held from October 13th to 20th in the Red Sea tourist resort of El Gouna, which is owned by the festival’s co-founders Naguib and Samih Sawaris.
Created in 2017, the GFF is considered “one of the leading festivals in North Africa and the Middle East.” In a press release the organizers say its objective, “is to connect film-makers from the region with their international counterparts in a spirit of cooperation and cultural exchange.” The CineGouna Platform will take place from October 15th to 19th offering industry professionals several days of meetings. It also supports projects being developed by Egyptian and Arab directors.
This extra year’s break, says Artistic Director Intishal Al-Timimi, “has allowed GFF managers to reflect on the artistic and organizational aspects of the festival and to focus on consolidating the role the GFF has played thus far in developing the film industry regionally and internationally.”
