ABU-JUDY

Egyptian film-maker Adel Ahmed Yehia won the Best Director award at the 9th Zawya Short Film Festival in Cairo for his short film Abu Judy. The festival took place from March 12th to 26th.

Produced by Red Star Films and Hawadeet Films, the film is about a 10-year-old girl who often goes to work with her father. Their relationship is tested when an unexpected incident occurs. In the film the director explores the themes of childhood and the premature transition to adulthood.

The Zawya Short Film Festival is organized by the Zawya Cinema, one of Egypt’s leading independent cinemas. Established in Cairo in 2014, the venue offers a rich programme of films with a particular focus on local independent productions. It organizes another festival focussed on European cinema: Panorama of European Film.
