MOROCCO / 1st International Spring Film Festival

Ouezzane International Spring Film Festival

The first International Spring Film Festival opened its doors in Ouezzane from April 9th to 12th with the theme “A Big Screen for a Small Town: Cinema and the Dialogue of Cultures.”

The festival’s aim, according to its organizers, is to support national productions and boost the local and international artistic scene. They hope to make this festival an important annual event in Morocco.

The programme included ten international films in competition. A jury, chaired by director and writer Mohamed Chrif Tribak, awarded the best films in the selection. There was also a “Panorama” section with a programme of Finnish films.

Izza Genini, a pioneer of Moroccan documentaries, was the guest of honour. Her new film, Meqbouline, Les Hôtes de Toumliline, was shown in preview. It looks back at the history of the Benedictine monks who founded a monastery in Toumliline in the 1950’s.
