The sixteenth ZagrebDox Pro, a training programme for film professionals with documentary projects, took place online from March 15th to 23rd. The event was for films at different stages of development and production and included a pitching forum, individual meetings with film industry representatives and various masterclasses.
There were four awards, two of them going to Mediterranean projects :
– The Al Jazeera Balkans Award was awarded to the Slovenian director Marko Kumer Murč, for The Other Side of the Pipe. Produced by Rusaalka Films, this feature-length documentary shows what happens when abuse of power becomes a pipeline’s biggest export. It follows ordinary people who are fighting to make Europe respect its values. The project was awarded €1,000.
– The Documentary Association of Europe (DAE) Mentoring Pitch Award went to Forbidden, a Romanian project by Anelise Salan. Produced by East Movies, the film is about four same-sex couples who go to the Romanian Civil Registry to register requests for marriage. Even though Romanian law does not allow same-sex marriage. This award consists of a one-year membership to the DAE and mentoring sessions for the director and the producer.
The ZagrebDoxPro was organized with the support of the Croatian Audiovisual Center, the city of Zagreb, the European Union’s Creative Europe – MEDIA programme and the Guild of Croatian film directors.
