AMFF

The 6th Annaba Mediterranean Film Festival took place from April 24th to 30th in the port city of Annaba.

A total of 55 films from 20 countries were screened in four competitions: feature films, documentaries, shorts and films made by AI.

In the feature film category the Grand Prix went to Morad Mostafa’s Aisha Can’t Fly Away (Egypt). Presented at Cannes last year, this film is about a caregiver, Aisha, who finds herself caught up in the conflicts between migrants and local gangs in a tough district of Cairo.

In the same competition, the Jury Award, the Audience Award and the Critics’ Award were all won by Yacine Bouaziz’ Algerian Poupiya. The Best Director Award went to Annemarie Jacir for her film Palestine 36.

In the documentary category, the First Prize was awarded to Jihan Khelkhiya’s Libyan film My Father and Gaddafi, in which the director tries to unravel the mystery surrounding the disappearance of her father, a peaceful opponent of Muammar Gaddafi, in Cairo in 1993.
