Organized from February 11th to 15th the 9th National University Short Film Festival presented 22 short films, 9 of which came from universities in Tunisia, Libya and Iraq.
Based on the theme “Film, a language of unity – the festival, a symbol of freedom”, the event offered a short film competition with workshops for students. These focused on directing, photography and editing.
Among the 10 awards, the Grand Prix went to Mohamed-Nidal Rouabah for Ominous Days, about a pessimistic young man who sees his life become a nightmare. Avant que ne tombe la neige (Before the Snow Falls), produced in Tunisia by the Sfax Higher Institute of Arts and Crafts, won two awards: Best Director and Best Music.
The representative of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Assia Sahraoui, said this year’s edition raises the festival “to the rank of a national event, since universities from Tunisia, Libya and Iraq have all participated.”
