Organized by the association Jeunes Étoiles, in partnership with Skikda’s Université 20 août 1955, the Student Cinema Days brought many aspiring directors together for a three day event.
The highlight was the award ceremony for the best student shorts. The Best Film Award went to Mohamed-Larbi Bourourou’s Koullouna Nantami which sensitively follows a boy suffering from Treacher-Collins syndrome. The film won over the jury with its professional mastery and social relevance. The second prize went to Le faux virage by Mohamed Islam Saoula and the third prize was shared between Abdeldjalil Boulehbal’s Pour son père and Ahmed Bellem’s Fuis!
Apart from the competition and screenings, four workshops brought together nearly 200 students. They covered a variety of topics: starting a business, critical film analysis and makeup for film.
As Adel Ramram, the president of Jeunes Étoiles, explains, the Skikda Student Cinema Days allowed young people from various universities to meet and share their film-making experiences.
